Meet Kelly

Classical dressage and riding instructor, and
Equine assisted mental health practitioner

Hi, I’m Kelly Zorn, and I’m delighted to share my journey with you. Over 34 years, I have gathered a wealth of experience working with horses.

With 22 years of dedicated service in the NSW Police Force. I had the privilege of working across various locations in the state, including Mount Druitt, Bidwill PCYC, the Mounted Unit, Northern Beaches, Walgett, and Wollongong. I have been lucky enough to compete at the Grand Prix level in Dressage, have had the honour of riding at the opening of the 2013 ParaOlympics, and participate in the musical ride at the Easter Show.
In May 2023, I retired from the police force to pursue my passion for horses and holistic healing. I am a qualified counsellor having studied Equine Assisted Therapy with Equine Assisted Therapy Australia, RTO No. 41482.

I am also a qualified Equestrian Australia Level 1 Dressage Coach.

I reside in the beautiful Illawarra region with my loving husband and our son. Horses have always been a significant part of my life, and I own four wonderful horses that I work with in both the coaching and therapy settings.

I offer two areas of horsemanship:

- General Horse Riding and Classical Dressage Tuition

- Equine Assisted Mental Health Practice

Horse Riding and Classical Dressage Tuition

General riding and classical dressage both equestrian disciplines but differ very much in their focus and approach.  General Riding covers a broad range of riding styles often more focused around leisure activities with riders enjoining trail riding, treks, basic arena and schooling exercises and engaging in various horse sports which don’t require a strict adherence to specific training principles.

Dressage however is a highly refined and systematic form of riding with deep historical roots.  It emphasises the harmonious development of both the horse and rider’s physical and mental abilities and the communication and partnership between the horse and rider.  Classical dressage follows a structured training process that focuses on building the horse’s strength, balance, suppleness and responsive to subtle aids.  Precision and elegance are paramount in classical dressage and riders execute intricate movements with fluidity and grace.

Equine Assisted Mental Health Practice

Equine Assisted Mental Health Practice (EAMHP) combines experiential and relational methodologies to create a dynamic therapeutic environment. In collaboration with a qualified mental health practitioner, horses act as co-facilitators, enabling clients to:

  • Develop trust and safety in relationships
  • Regulate their nervous system
  • Gain insights into their behavious and responses
  • Foster self awareness and personal growth

Sessions are tailored to individual needs and prioritise the safety and well-being of all participants – humans and horses alike. The feedback from the horses creates opportunities for unique therapeutic experiences.
